Frequently Asked Questions
Is the program an alternative to individual sex addiction therapy?
Yes and no. For many people, the Hero Program is sufficient on its own and makes parallel individual therapy unnecessary. Because the program doesn’t just provide information—it teaches you how to actively work with what drives the addiction.
You learn, among other things, how to:
- identify your attachment style and understand how it shapes your reaction patterns
- recognize your protective mechanisms and see how they keep the addiction in place
- identify the emotional wounds beneath the behavior
- understand why the addiction gained a foothold in your life
- learn concrete ways to process difficult emotions and situations—without avoiding them and without becoming overwhelmed by them
For many participants, this means they are no longer dependent on a therapist to move forward in the process. They gain the tools to understand, regulate, and work with their inner life—the very dynamics that previously drove their behavior.
That said, there are situations where individual therapy is necessary or beneficial—for example in cases of serious mental health conditions, acute crisis, or complex trauma. In such cases, the Hero Program can function as a strong supplement, helping you work through the addiction while you address other issues in parallel with a therapist.
The Hero Program is designed to provide a holistic, professionally structured process with the goal of gradually enabling you to stand firm, understand yourself, and continue building a life of freedom.
Do I need to be a Christian to be a student?
Yes. The Standing Strong Hero Program is intentionally faith-based and grounded in biblical truth. It’s created for Christians who believe the Bible is the Word of God and who desire to grow in alignment with His will. Scripture, prayer, and spiritual reflection are woven into the learning experience as essential tools in the healing and recovery process.
That doesn’t mean you’re expected to know the entire Bible or feel especially close to God. You’re welcome to wrestle with questions of faith, and several lessons speak directly to the struggles Christians face when shame and addiction collide with the spiritual life.
However, because of the importance of protecting the integrity of the programs and of the Christian community within them, you do need to come with a sincere heart to grow in relationship with God and to follow Him.
Is the program beginner or intermediate level?
It’s both. Because the Hero Program starts from the beginning and contains the entire portfolio of recovery tools needed, you can apply whether you are just starting out or you have achieved the first period of sobriety but have realized that you need more than just sobriety to make it last.
Can I remain anonymous?
Not entirely. Your student profile is private, which means your personal information isn’t visible to others. But the program includes a student community that functions as an online support group. Where you will often be at liberty to choose how much information you’ll share, you are obligated to participate as part of the healing process.
I understand the fear of being known, especially when it comes to something as personal as sexual addiction. But for healing to take place, you need to break out of emotional isolation, and the safest space to do so is among people who are on the same journey and therefore form a non-judgmental and empathetic space.
Support groups won’t bring a person to freedom, but they help break isolation, reduce shame, and create space for encouragement and perspective.

That’s a completely valid fear, and you’re not the only one who’s felt it.
The Hero Program is built to make change feel doable. Each lesson is focused and contains clear guidance. What overwhelms most people isn’t the amount of material: it’s the weight of trying to change without a plan.
This program gives you structure, direction, and encouragement, so you’re not just facing your struggle, but walking through it with purpose and clarity.
You don’t have to be strong to start. You just have to be willing.
Do I really need to spend 20 minutes a day on recovery?
Yes. Breaking a porn addiction isn’t just about avoiding pornography—it’s about changing your mindset, healing your heart, and growing into a spiritually and emotionally stronger person. That kind of transformation takes time, focus, and effort.
Most people who aren’t willing to invest that time never break free long-term. I meet people every week who are stuck in the cycle of using and repenting. What many of them have in common is this: they haven’t been willing to take the practical steps required for real change.
It’s your choice.
And often the real question is: Am I willing to do what’s necessary for freedom?
What if I'm too weak to succeed?
Then you’re exactly the person this program was created for.

This will naturally effect both the time you should expect to spend each day (12-15 minutes on average) and the total time span of the course (10-12 months).

That said, I know this is a sensitive area. To protect and honor each person’s healing journey, the online student community is structured to maintain safety and boundaries. Men and women do not share private spaces for group processing, and private contact between men and women in the group is prohibited. All group interaction takes place in moderated forums.

Not at all. The Hero Program is for individuals—not couples. Whether you’re single, married, divorced, or somewhere in between, this program is about your journey toward freedom, integrity, and inner strength.
You’ll work through themes like sexuality, shame, emotional pain, and disconnection. If anything, this program will help prepare you to build or rebuild healthy relationships in the future, grounded in truth, integrity, and emotional wholeness.
Is the program (betrayal) trauma-informed?
Definitely. In fact, that’s one of the many reasons this program is different and better. While this program is designed for the person struggling with sexual addiction—not for the betrayed partner—it is deeply trauma-aware in how it approaches change, honesty, and responsibility.
The content is developed with an understanding of betrayal trauma and the deep pain it causes in relationships. You won’t find advice here that minimizes the impact of betrayal, excuses harmful behavior, or pushes for premature forgiveness or reconciliation.
Instead, the program helps participants take ownership of their actions, understand the emotional and spiritual roots of their behavior, and begin rebuilding character from the inside out.
